Working together to build community
GLAPD works closely with African community associations from Africa and beyond by providing:
Advice and advocacy
Cultural and sporting events
Financial support to run events /activities and projects
Mediation in times of dispute or conflict
Office space for meetings and workshops
Social support initiatives
Cultural programs create togetherness
Every year, GLAPD organizes a cultural events where communities gather to celebrate their cultures through spectacular dances, fashion, delicious traditional food, beautiful arts and crafts and inspirational speeches from community leaders. Our goal is to share and embrace everyone’s culture.
Sport helps bridge the isolation gap
To build togetherness and assist with integration, GLAPD organises an annual Sports Gala to:

Provide networking between communities
Reinvigorate health and wellbeing by bringing African communities together
Understanding cultural differences helps prevent domestic violence
The cultural differences between home countries and Australia can cause tension in families. When necessary we provide casework services to domestic and family violence victims and employ options of mediation and resolution. We provide referrals to appropriate services.
Educational support when it’s needed
Some refugee families need computers and internet at home so children can study and complete their homework. Some parents do not have adequate schooling or time to help their children with schoolwork. GLAPD can assist with resources and coaching support.
